What To Do When Experiencing Toothache Late At Night
Posted on 8/7/2023 by Florida Smiles Dental
A toothache can be quite painful, especially if it strikes late at night when dental offices could be closed. Contact the dentist when you have a toothache, as you may not know the underlying reason.
You can do a few emergency first-aid techniques to lessen pain and discomfort. Here are some of the things to do when experiencing toothache late at night:
Elevate Your Head When On Bed
Try elevating your head while lying down to help alleviate the pain and reduce swelling associated with a toothache. Prop yourself up with an extra pillow or adjust the angle of your bed. Reducing blood flow to the injured area can lessen pain and inflammation by keeping your head slightly elevated.
Take Over-The-Counter Pain Pills
Painkillers sold over-the-counter can temporarily ease toothache discomfort. Ibuprofen, among other drugs, can alleviate pain and discomfort. If you have any other medical issues, be cautious to avoid taking the prescription.
Rinse Your Mouth
Gently rinsing your mouth with warm salt water can help alleviate toothache discomfort. Mix salt and warm water and gaggle in your mouth. Ask the dentist how you are supposed to measure the mixture for it to be effective.
Swish the solution in your mouth for 30 seconds after a little sip, then spit it out. Repeat this a few times to help cleanse the area around the affected tooth and soothe any inflammation.
Use A Cold Compress
Put something cold on the part of your mouth near the painful tooth to numb the area. Find something cold, wrap it, and place it near the aching place for a few minutes.
Allow for breaks between applications to prevent skin damage. The cold temperature can temporarily relieve toothache pain by numbing the area and reducing inflammation. After following the above tips, visit our dentist even when the pain disappears.
